The "Rules" of Makeup

Depending on who you ask their rules for makeup will be completely different from your rules. I was inspired to make a blog post about this topic for numerous reasons but mostly because I received a strange compliment yesterday regarding my makeup and also because I often hear girls talking about what someones makeup looks like. I know personally I've been guilty of this in the past and if you really think about it if someone is confident enough to walk around expressing themselves through their makeup then why should we put them down for that?
That being said, with makeup I like to think of it as there are no rules, only technique. Because when you think of the reasons why we talk about other peoples makeup its because they foundation doesn't blend with their neck or their blush is streaky or if their eyeshadow is not blended well.

It takes a bit of practice to perfect good blending techniques and I think its different for everyone. People with dry skin may have different techniques because buffing foundation with a brush can cause exfoliation which can equal a more heavy look because of the skin being buffed. With dry skin its better to lightly press it into the skin and lightly pad it. I have combination skin so i have to be careful around my chin area.
Thinking back to my foundation from high school I can definitely tell the difference. I use to hate wearing foundation because i thought it always made me look cakey but now I've learned its because i didn't know how to blend it into my skin so it would just sit their like frosting Hahaha!
One of my favorite foundation brushes to use is the Sigma f80 it makes blending so much easier and before i got the f80 i used the Sonia Kashuk flat top brush which i thought was really good too!
Always remember there are no rules, only TECHNIQUE!
Hope this helps! XOXO S.
